Throwback Song of the Week: Ebenezer Obey – Aiye Wa Atooro.
Quick Facts on the infamous Ebenezer Obey. He was born in 1942. His full name is Ebenezer Remilekun Aremu Olasupo Obey-Fabiyi.
He began his professional career in the 50’s after tutelage under “Fatai Rolling Dollar,” another popular lagos musician. Later, he formed the band “International Brothers” in 1964 which later evolved into “Inter-reformers” in the ’70s.
Not long after, Obey began experimenting with Yoruba percussion style. He expanded on the band by adding more drum kits and talking drums. This legend is well-known for weaving intricate Yoruba adages into dance floor rhythms. Although Obey started with music that sing the praises of rich Nigerian socialites, Now however, he is renowned for christian songs. He started infusing spiritual themes into his music since the early 1990s  and retired into Nigerian gospel music ministry.
