Happy Val – How to Love Yourself, Tips, and More

Happy Valentine’s Day guys! It’s time to love yourself. Get to know yourself more.

In case you’re wondering if this is strange or selfish? No, it is not. The greatest teacher who ever lived, Christ Jesus said: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” So, how can you demonstrate love towards someone else when you don’t know how to love yourself? Another way to put it is like this: you cannot give what you don’t have.

So, relax and reflect. Think back to your journey on planet earth so far. Time out: think about the major decisions you’ve made. Also, what about your families? Review your major events, minor victories, epic fails, the little disappointments, but most of all, who you are as a person.

These are some of the reflections I do to remind myself of how far I have come and where I am going. No one is perfect. As a matter of fact, only God is perfect; we can only strive for perfection while pursuing excellence. Call me crazy, but I talk to myself while reflecting. Then, I encourage myself: “It’s okay you didn’t get the promotion because you gained great experience; now you can carve an opportunity for yourself.” As much as possible, I see the cup half full; I try to look for opportunities in the disappointments and hunt for life lessons in my failures.

Don’t have any plans today? Listen to Billboard’s top love songs (below) with an aged wine and a good book. Another suggestion is to relax with dimmed lights and your favorite romantic movie. Whether you are a guy or lady, single or married, it is good to take some time to love yourself (contrary to the sadistic emo from Justin Bieber’s song).

Happy Love Day! Take some time out to let the people you love how much they mean to you.

Although I am not a fan of celebrating public holidays, there are some holidays that are personally significant to me (like Christmas and Thanksgiving); others – though not celebrated, I acknowledge because they remind me of things that are important.

My plans today? Relax with my family and appreciate their relationship by serving them. Food and dinner sound good!
