Find out the 5 major things Nigerians are expecting from Mr. Trump’s victory!
Let’s be honest: many Nigerians (if not 97%) did not want or did not expect Mr. Donald Trump to win the presidential election. But now he will be crowned the 45th president of the United States after scoring 289 electoral votes to rival Hillary Clinton’s 218.
Social media has been buzzing with crazy reactions to the news; so, check out the five interesting things Nigerians noted they are waiting for…now that Trump has officially won.
1. Wole Soyinka should rip his green card
So many crazy things people have said…all because of this man Trump. Nobel prize-winning playwright and poet, Soyinka, allegedly told students he would cut up his American green card while giving a speech at Oxford University, England. Soyinka’s green card allows him permanent residency in the U.S. where he is currently living and working. Now, Nigerians on social media won’t let him forget that statement. They want to see him keep to his word and throw a ceremony in honor of it.
2. TB Joshua should apologize for his ‘false prophesy’
The Facebook post could no longer be traced.
Nigerian pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua is the General Overseer of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria. Famous for his prophetic abilities, many claim he predicted Hillary Clinton would win the presidential election, citing a Facebook post which can no longer be found. Those who trusted the pastor in his prediction are now calling for an explanation. Even more, Nigerians are expecting an apology.
3. Africans living in the United States to back to Motherland
You’ve heard the jokes….at least more than once. A lot of Africans have talked smack/nonsense about how they’ll leave the U.S. if Trump becomes president. From memes and stand-up comedy to pictures, Nigerians expressed their desperation to leave and return to the Motherland. It all started — for the most part — after Trump threatened to build a wall and ban citizens from terrorist-troubled nations (hint: Nigerians and unresolved Boko haram issues).
Now that the tables have turned, how many Nigerians will really move back to their home countries because of Trump?
4. Trump to expel Trevor Noah out of the country
South African comedian Trevor Noah hosts The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He went viral on the internet during the debate after his hilarious attacks on the candidates, especially trump. However, as the election results poured in, Noah didn’t have much to laugh about.
“If ever there was a reason to vote, it’s because on the other side, the KKK sees an opportunity to come back into the mainstream,” Noah said during the show. “That is the scariest s— I have ever come across in my life.”
His comments have led some Twitter users to predict Trump will have something to say now that he is president-elect.
5. Samuel L. Jackson to move to South Africa
Several celebrities including Cher, Ne Yo and Amy Schumer said they’d move out of America if Mr. Trump wins; Canada came up as their first choice of places to go.
However…and interestingly, Samuel L. Jackson chose South Africa way back in 2015 during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live. South Africans are so pleased with the idea, they’ve even renamed him Siyamamukela L Jackson.
