Throwback Music: “Olufunmi” by Styl-Plus

Let’s throw it back to early 2000s – the days of Styl-Plus. This was one of the hottest and most popular male group in Nigeria – dare we say Africa. Their single, Olufunmi hit the market and grew globally.

Styl-Plus is made up of trio: Zeal Onyecheme, Shifi Emoefe, and Tunde Akinsanmi.  When they released Olufunmi in 2004, it was a hit. The group was dubbed “The African boys II Men.

The founding members were Shifi, Tunde, Yemi Akinwonmi, and Lanre Faneyi; the name STYL is an abbreviation of the founders first names. In 1998, Lanre Faneyi died, and Zeal Onyecheme joined the group. So, the group was renamed “Styl-Plus”; the “Plus” signifies the latest addition to the group.

In 2002 Yemi Akinwonmi left the group and the musical band became a trio without adding a new member. Later after their success, Tunde left the group to pursue a solo career.

Their singles Olufunmi was among the most requested love songs on all the major Nigerian R&B radio stations between 2004 and 2005.

Let’s reminiscence on the good ol’ days of this band. Watch the video below and enjoy.
