46-year-old Theresa Hohenhaus thought she was too old to have babies — and she has four children of her own already.
Her daughter, 25-year-old Alice Hohenhaus was told by doctors she cannot have a baby because of complications to her uterus. So, it was mom to the rescue!
Alice had been diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of four and had a relapse when she was nine years old. The radiation left some scars to her body, including her womb. Still, Alice and her husband tried to have a baby. Unfortunately, they lost a fetus at 15 weeks. That’s when doctors told her she cannot carry a baby to full term.
Mom, Theresa knew it was unlikely that Alice and her husband would donate the last embryo; so, she decided to step in and help.
She offered to serve as a surrogate because she knew how passionate Alice was about having kids. In June, she gave birth to her own grandson, and the story spread like wildfire.
Theresa said, “It was the best experience of my life.”
